About Mount Athos
The Athonite peninsula has been an uninterrupted centre of Orthodox Christian monasticism since the 10th century. The 20 ruling monasteries collectively own the entire peninsula and maintain their own governance, legal system, and even a different calendar. Transfer guests are dropped at the Ouranoupoli ferry terminal where boats to Mount Athos depart. We recommend an early morning pickup from Thessaloniki to catch the first ferry.
